Why lying is bad for your health!

Why lying is bad for your health!

It’s easy to tell the truth, but it takes intelligence to twist it into a lie. People gain the ability to lie around the age of 4. Around that age children start to understand that parents can’t read their minds and they can get away by give false information. From that age on it only grows worse. At the age of 8 children are able to tell a lie without showing any body language that gives them away. Lying is a sign of intelligence, as it takes creativity and a high-functioning brain to come up with a lie. However, telling lies has...

Motivation: a challenging task?

Motivation: a challenging task?

Looking out on my backyard I see my precious motorcycle. It’s stalled in the garage, completely stripped from all body parts. It needs some maintenance before I can take it for a spin. There is nothing I’d rather do than driving this monster. It’s a white Honda SP2 and I’m in “love” with it. The maintenance required to drive takes 2 evenings of work max. However it is standing there this way for a few weeks now. Why can’t I put myself to it? Why do people always postpone their works or their duties? Why do...

The power of balloons

The power of balloons

Five years old, standing between hundreds of children, with a beautiful red balloon in my right hand. After a countdown of 10 seconds I am wondering why everyone let go of his balloon? My mother standing next to me says that I too have to let go of my balloon. With a sad look on my face I let it fly up into the sky… A few weeks later my school receives a letter from a Frenchman. He found my balloon and sent me the attached card back! I won the contest of retrieving the attached card from the balloon over the biggest distance. My price...

How to challenge yourself every day!

How to challenge yourself every day!

Waking up, getting work done and going back to sleep. That’s the rough sketch of an average day, or isn’t it? People are not made for daily routine. We need to have a (new) challenge every day to stay motivated. “The less routine the more life.” – Amos Bronson Alcott Every person’s routine is unique, but the importance of stepping outside our cycle of common activities is necessary for personal growth and intellectual development. When I am motivated to do something new I have the feeling that I am able to move...

Create opportunities by taking action, today!

A direct quote of Masterchef Australia: I would love to take a bite of that delicious looking apple pie, but no-one has given me a spoon yet. Funny, how that relates to life: If I keep waiting for someone to give me a spoon, I might never taste the delicious and amazing taste of that pie. Life is all about MAKING chances and opportunities. No-one will come towards me with the following words: “Hey, I like you, would you work for me?” or “Hey, you there, do you want € 23.421,- ?” If you are that one-in-a-million-guy...

Making decisions bring positive results

After gathering all my courage I’m finally able to step up and make my move, or not? Please anything or anyone; give me a sign! Everytime I am going to do something big, I like to look for a sign around me. A falling star, a blinking light, a strange sound, anything that’s “different.”As if I need approvement for my actions from a “higher power.” Well to be honest; I’d love to have someone make the hard decisions for me. Making decisions has never been my strongest point. BUT, if I want to live my life...

Optimism is the solution

Optimism is the solution

It’s a dark, windy and rainy day… On top of that I got up too late and while I’m halfway my route I suddenly remember I’ve forgotten my notebook. This is going to be an awful day! Because of this kind of attitude I WILL indeed be having a bad day. All that happens during the day will be negative because I will see it that way. “Pessimism.” The word itself sounds creepy. This word defines: the tendency to expect the worst and see the worst in all things. By being a pessimist you will never really enjoy life,...

Resolving morning stress

Resolving morning stress

It’s 8:45 in the morning and I am late… as usual! I have to be on my way in 5 minutes; hurry, get that pants and find a t-shirt that’s still decent. Also I need my wallet and my phone. Got it; now get going! When I sprint to the door I quickly go through a checklist in my mind: bag with books; check, wallet; check, earpieces; check. When I almost slam the door shut I scare the crap outta me: I FORGOT THE KEYS. Every time I have to hurry I end up forgetting something. Because of the stress in my head I can’t really focus on what to do....

The power of scents and flavours

A fresh baked bread, the smell of a pie in the oven, a sniff of a fragrance I love… Scent is a powerful thing.  Whether I recognize it or not, my nose is capable of analyzing thousands of smells. Most of the time I analyse these  smells unconciously. Luckily some smells do trigger my mind and make me feel happy. As you might already know: Research has shown that smells can have an effect on mood, and particular smells have a positive effect on the majority of people. And that’s why smelling good is so important. I don’t...

The joy of a moment

It’s a beautiful day, the sun is shining, I’m feeling good, nobody can stop me now. Queen, a great song. But how many people see that beautiful day, feel that beautiful day? In this western culture everything revolves around work. You study half of your life to get the education needed for a job. Then you work your ass off the other part of your life. Maybe after that you have some retirement to enjoy. But why can’t we enjoy a beautiful day as it is? After a long winter I loved the first sunrays on my face. Can I enjoy them longer than...
